Job Details | Purpose of Position: Control, monitor, and accomplish preventive and corrective maintenance on prime mission radars, satellite communications (SATCOM) earth stations, tactical data link (TDL) systems, remote rekey (RRK) systems, communications-electronics, radio navigational aids (NAVAID), telephone switches, and meteorological equipment at long range radar (LRR) and unmanned radio sites within the Alaska Radar System. Primary Responsibility: Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on the AN/FPS-117 radar, SATCOM, TDL, RRK, and telephone system, at LRR sites in accordance with USAF technical orders, regulations, and operating instructions (OI) as required; direct, advise, and complete scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on the following equipment in accordance with Operating Instructions (OI) and other equipment as assigned; from the MC3, direct, control, and monitor preventive and corrective maintenance accomplished by Station Technicians on prime mission radars, SATCOM, TDL, RRK, communications-electronics equipment, NAVAIDs, telephone systems, meteorological equipment, and miscellaneous communications infrastructure components at remote sites within the ARS; coordinate callout and overtime of site employees as necessary to meet mission, contract, and emergency requirements; act as the single point of contact for after-hours emergencies as needed; track operational restrictions on NAVAIDs; provide to the Government and company managers the status of ARS electronic systems as directed by the Operations Manager or Electronics Lead; produce Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRLs) pertaining to the status and maintenance of ARS electronics systems; maintain and publish the Project Maintenance Schedule for all ARS electronics systems, using the ARS AIMS. Monitor all sites for completion of scheduled maintenance; plan and coordinate work activities with other ARS personnel, sites and departments; be familiar with ARCTEC Alaska Operating Instructions, Administrative Instructions, Task Orders, Personnel Policies and Procedures, and the systems, procedures, and equipment applicable to the job responsibilities. Core Qualifications: Successful completion of a recognized course in Electronics Engineering Technology or similar program of study from a recognized technical/vocational school. Course of study must meet minimum contract requirements; completion of the Level II AN/FPS-117 Technician course in accordance with the criteria set forth in the Performance Work Statement (PWS), Appendix 9; at least two (2) years maintenance experience on the AN/FPS-117; at least ten years of electronic maintenance experience, with progressive responsibilities to include demonstrated success at a Foreman, Crew Chief, or Lead responsibility level; possess a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) General Radio Operator’s License (GROL); must hold a final security clearance at the SECRET or higher level; must be able to travel in small aircraft and be prepared to remain overnight in small villages in substandard accommodations. Must be able to travel 50% or more of position time; must be able to work rotating shifts, including the established “flex” shift; must have working knowledge of computers and typical applications including word processing (MS Word), spreadsheets (MS Excel), and database (MS Access); must have excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills in order to effectively interact with co- workers and customer representatives; must be able to speak, read and write English proficiently enough to complete employment duties; must have strong organizational skills and the demonstrated ability to work independently; must have a current Alaska Driver’s License; must maintain a current first aid/cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certifications. Secondary Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to write procedures, training, and technical material in a clear and accurate manner; ability and willingness to conduct technical training.
