Job DetailsJob Summary: The Heat and Vent Specialist is responsible for the maintenance of heat and ventilation systems within Anchorage School District facilities and reports to a department lead. The location of the work station is subject to contract language concerning shift location/bids. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS).

Job Functions: troubleshoots, analyzes, and repairs heating and ventilation systems; corrects various heat problems from cold/hot rooms to boiler features; repairs leaking circulating pumps; performs minor plumbing repairs; changes fan/pump motors including belts; orders needed parts for assigned jobs; works within established safety procedures; works cooperatively with others within established maintenance and safety procedures.

Job Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent; minimum of four years of experience within the past six years in the field of heating and ventilation. Work experience must evidence ability to perform tasks assigned; knowledge of fluid transfer pumps; knowledge of unit ventilators and fan components which must include exhaust systems; knowledge of building automation system controls for heating and ventilation systems; knowledge of standard heating, ventilation, and mechanical equipment including, but not limited to, fire tube, water tube, cast iron sectional, wet and dry back boilers, gas-fired and oil-fired furnaces; must obtain an Alaska class B commercial driver’s license with a general knowledge test endorsement within 6 months of hire; at a minimum, must possess an Alaska second class boiler operator’s license or demonstrate a commensurate level of experience and knowledge to perform second class boiler license work; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Preferred Requirements: ability to interpret and work from plans, prints, specifications, and established maintenance procedures; ability to write reports as needed; ability to proficiently use appropriate computer applications for assigned areas of responsibility.
