Job Details Summary: The overall purpose and objective of this position is to maintain and repair mechanical problems that arise with company powered and non-powered equipment, and to perform those functions, as needed, in a safe, efficient and economical manner. Required to perform a full range of component overhaul and repair including inspecting, troubleshooting, welding, electrical component testing and or replacing and refrigeration diagnostic and repair as needed.

Job Duties: Perform maintenance on wheeled commercial trailer chassis, industrial equipment, automotive, engines, special purpose and material handling equipment; perform maintenance on light and medium duty equipment; troubleshoot defects and malfunctions and determine the type or extent of the repair; perform technical inspections of equipment and determine the scope of the repair; perform welder duties using electric and wire fed, acetylene, and/or inert gas-shielded welding processes; perform body and fender related repairs; modify, fabricate, and install equipment; meet and maintain vehicle brake inspector qualifications; meet and maintain commercial motor vehicle inspector qualifications; pass training for OSHA and company safety training including but not limited to: Lock-out/Tag-out (LOTO) and Hazardous Materials; operate all equipment, including diagnostic, to perform functions of the job; perform other mechanic duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Must have and maintain a valid Alaska driver’s license; must be able to obtain and maintain a TWIC card; computer skills required to the extent necessary to perform required job function; certified in refrigerant, welding, forklift and top pick within 90 days, as well as maintain those qualifications; ; Union members selected for an interview must bring a dispatch form from Union Local 959; Non-union candidates selected for interview must become a union member if hired; current driving history going back a minimum of 10 years; must be able to pass a background and Fit for Duty Test upon job offer. Refrigeration, welding, diesel, heavy equipment mechanic experience preferred.
