Job DetailsSummary: The overall purpose and objective of this position is to perform a full range of powered and non-powered equipment inspection, troubleshoot, repair/replacement and service of tractors, dollies, and chassis, as needed in a safe, efficient, and economical manner.

 Job Duties: Comply with OSHA safe working rules and regulations along with FMCSR job specific requirements; inspect shop powered or non-powered equipment for safe working order before use or post repairs; regularly maintain, inspect prior to and post use of safety equipment for personal protection; must attend and pass training for OSHA, Company, & job specific requirements such as but not limited to fall prevention training, Lock-Out and Tag-Out (LOTO), Hazardous materials, Eye Wash, Fire extinguisher, etc; must be able to operate all equipment, inclusive of diagnostic, to perform functions of job; must be proficient in all types of forklifts, gas, electric, and diesel to include top picks/high lifts.  Forklifts may be 1 ton – 35 ton; must be Forklift, Top Pick, Swapper and Tire Bay certified within 90 days and maintain those qualifications; must be proficient with yard tractors, over the highway commercial tractors, operating bob-tail, with single, and with doubles attached; must be able to perform maintenance on wheeled commercial trailer chassis, industrial equipment, automotive engines, special purpose and material handling equipment.  Examples include but are not limited to:  heavy and light fork lifts, snow removal equipment, truck tractors (yard and over the highway), pick-ups, straight trucks, trailers, special purpose yard repair vehicles and general ground support equipment; conducts some mechanical repair work and electrical system component repair/replacement as needed; ensure electrical and electronic items are inspected and serviced to remain operational.

Job Requirements: Must maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Tanker, Air Brake, double and triples, HazMat endorsements; current DOT Physical; must be able to meet and maintain 49 CFR, Part 362.25 Vehicle Brake Inspector qualifications; must be able to meet and maintain 49 CFR, Part 396.19 Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspector qualifications; must be able to obtain and maintain a TWIC card; ability to work all shifts and any weekdays, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed; must become a union member if hired; must be able to endure severe weather and temperature conditions while performing maintenance; must be able to read, write, and communicate using the English Language; must be able to follow directions, understand all manuals along with electrical and mechanical schematics; must be computer literate to the extent necessary to perform required job functions; must be a team player and able to get along with others; must be capable of entering and exiting cabs of tractors 25 or more times per hour, which requires flexibility to step up/down two or more steps with bending, twisting and turning movements.
