Job Details | The Mechanical/Welding Specialist is responsible for the maintenance of the mechanical equipment & welding within Anchorage School District facilities & reports to a department lead. The location of the work station is subject to contract language concerning shift location/bids. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) & is represented by Teamsters Local 959 Warehouse & Maintenance Employees bargaining unit. JOB REQUIRMENTS: High school diploma or equivalent; possess a current certified structural welder certificate; minimum four years of experience within the past six years in mechanical systems such as sheet metal, welding & machine shop; work experience must evidence ability to perform such tasks; knowledge of standard mechanical equipment including, but not limited to, wood & metal shop equipment, food service equipment, printing machinery, office furniture, overhead doors, fire doors, hoists & cranes; extensive knowledge of equipment & materials used in the manufacture of metal products; ability to assemble, dismantle & repair machinery & mechanical equipment; must obtain an AK class B commercial driver’s license with a general knowledge test endorsement within 6 months of hire; ability to establish & maintain effective working relationships with others. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Install ventilation changes as needed; repair shop equipment; perform preventive maintenance as needed; thaw frozen water lines; lay out & bend sheet metal as required for assigned work; order required material for assigned work; work within established safety procedures; work cooperatively with others within established maintenance & safety procedures. PREFFERD REQUIRMENTS: A journeyman sheet metal certificate; ability to interpret & work from plans, prints, specifications & established maintenance procedures; ability to write reports when needed; ability to proficiently use appropriate computer applications for assigned areas of responsibility.
