Job Details | The primary purpose of the Expeditor position is to ensure the efficient movement of materials, equipment and supplies between Anchorage and the remote sites and maintaining the shipping and receiving warehouse. The Expeditors interact regularly with people in various positions in the Company and externally. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Load and unload materials on and off freight vans or other vehicles move material by hand, hand truck, forklift or dolly; open and seal crates, boxes, cartons, and other containers using hammers, crowbars, cutting tools, power hand tools and tape; receive purchased materials and other materials needing shipment, inspect for accuracy and organize shipments of materials to remote sites; consult with customers to help meet their needs regarding the movement of materials; operate storage warehouse and yard store stack or palletize materials, not shipped immediately, in accordance with prescribed storage methods, and considering such factors as size, weight, quantity, spoilage, pilferage, and safety to others organize and take inventory of stored materials; consolidate site and project materials in designated area; orchestrate the movement of hazardous cargo and/or materials with the assistance of the Hazardous Material Specialist or Environmental Department to certify requests to ship hazardous materials; notify Transportation Management Office (TMO) and commercial airlines of hazardous material shipments and package hazardous material in accordance with applicable regulations. Properly store hazardous materials in warehouse environment. CORE QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a US citizen or US national and have the ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance; high school diploma or general education degree (GED); minimum of two (2) years’ experience using accepted warehousing methods, procedures, and material handling techniques to include: Freight forwarding; Freight consolidation; Less-than-a-load pickup and delivery; Warehouse configurations; Storage for special commodities; Ability to interpret information on Material Safety Data Sheets; and Government or commercial transportation and material tracking; possess a valid Alaska Driver’s License; ability to acquire and maintain a Class C Commercial Driver’s License with a Hazmat endorsement within (90) ninety days of start of employment and ability to maintain a good driving record; possess the physical ability to lift 50 lbs. to waist level; ability to operate material handling equipment, including forklifts, lift gates and trucks; must pass forklift certification; knowledge of safety regulations, practices and procedures. Ability to maintain warehouse and staging yard in a safe and orderly manner; demonstrated proficiency in accurately completing hazardous materials documentation; demonstrated proficiency in the use of maintenance management computer systems.
