As an Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO), you will play a critical role in ensuring the security and integrity of our organization’s information systems and data assets. Working within our cybersecurity team, you will be responsible for implementing, monitoring, and enforcing security policies and procedures to protect against unauthorized access, data breaches, and cyber threats. Your expertise will be essential in maintaining compliance with industry standards and regulations, identifying security vulnerabilities, and coordinating incident response activities. This role requires a strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, risk management practices, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

the role of the Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) is paramount in ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of military information. As an ISSO, your duties encompass developing, implementing, and upholding information security policies, procedures, and protocols in alignment with military standards and regulations. You will conduct routine security assessments, risk evaluations, and vulnerability scans to identify and address potential threats and weaknesses within our systems and networks. Monitoring security logs and alerts is crucial for detecting and responding promptly to any security incidents, breaches, or unauthorized access attempts, thereby safeguarding critical military assets. Collaboration with IT teams is essential to ensure the swift deployment of security updates, patches, and controls to fortify our defenses against evolving threats. Managing access controls, including user permissions and role-based access, is vital for maintaining the principle of least privilege and protecting sensitive military data. Additionally, you will lead security awareness training sessions to instill a culture of vigilance and compliance among military personnel. Maintaining thorough documentation of security measures, risk assessments, and incident response protocols is essential for regulatory audits and reporting requirements. Staying abreast of emerging cybersecurity threats and advancements is crucial to proactively assess risks and recommend effective security measures and countermeasures to uphold military readiness and operational effectiveness.

Core Requirements:

Ability to obtain Secret or higher security clearance.  Requires CompTIA  Security+ CE certification. Strong knowledge of cybersecurity principles,  standards, frameworks, and regulations, Hands-on experience with security tools and technologies, including various SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) systems, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), endpoint  security solutions, and vulnerability management tools.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex security issues, analyze security logs and data, and recommend effective solutions.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, communicate security concepts to non-technical stakeholders, and influence change.

Desired Qualifications:

Advanced certifications such as CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) or CISM (Certified Information Security Manager) are highly desirable.

Proven experience in information security roles,  with a focus on security operations, risk management, and compliance. Experience in a regulated industry such as healthcare, finance, or government is a plus. Strong knowledge of cybersecurity principles, standards, frameworks, and regulations, Hands-on experience with security tools and technologies, including SIEM (Security  Information  and  Event Management) systems, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), endpoint security solutions, and vulnerability management tools. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex security issues, analyze security logs and data, and recommend effective solutions.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, communicate security concepts to non-technical stakeholders, and influence change. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
