Job DetailsJob Summary: Controls treatment plant machines and equipment to purify and clarify water for human consumption and for industrial use.

Primary Duties: Control treatment plant machines and equipment to purify and clarify water for human consumption and or industrial use; operate and control electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate flow of raw water into treating plant and dumps specified amounts of chemicals such as chlorine, polymer, and fluoride into water, or adjusts automatic devices that admit specified amounts of chemicals into tanks to disinfect, deodorize, and clarify water; operate agitators to mix chemicals and allows impurities to settle to bottom of tank, turns valves to regulate water through filter beds to remove impurities, pumps purified water into water mains, monitors panel board and SCADA HMI and adjusts controls to regulator flow rates, loss of head pressure and water elevation and distribution of water; clean tanks and filter beds, using backwashing (reverse flow of water), minor repairs and lubricates machines and equipment, using hand- and power tools; test water samples to determine acidity, color, and impurities, using colorimeter, turbidimeter, and conductivity meter; dump chemicals such as polymer into tanks to coagulate impurities and reduce acidity; record data, such as residual content of chemicals, water turbidity, and water pressure; operate portable water-purification plant to supply drinking water and purify wastewater from plant preparatory to pumping water into rivers and streams or city mains; operate sewage treatment, sludge processing, and disposal equipment in wastewater (sewage) treatment plant to control flow and processing of sewage, monitors control panels and adjusts valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate flow of sewage, observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings, and tests results to determine load requirements; start and stop pumps, engines, and generators to control flow of raw sewage through screening, settling, aeration, and sludge digestion processes; maintain log of operations and record meter and gas readings; performs routine operations and maintenance, and may collect sewage sample, using dipper or bottle and conduct laboratory tests, using testing equipment, such as colorimeter; perform  preventative and Operational as well as corrective maintenance as required or directed; all other relevant job duties as assigned by Lead Operator or manager.

Education, Experience, Skills: High school education or G.E.D equivalent; must be able to communicate clearly (oral and written) in the English language with both internal and external clients and co-workers; ability to communicate via radio; valid Alaska Driver’s License (CDL-B with Tank Endorsement must complete within 6 months of hire; valid State of Alaska Water and Wastewater I Operators License; excellent documentation and organizational skills; ability to respond to calls for work outside of normal working hours; ability to pass background check to receive and Airport Identification Badge for access across the State Airport to the Waste Water Treatment Facility; maintain Excellent Attendance; ability to undergo Hepatitis Series Vaccinations; meet the requirements of an annual physical that will include pulmonary function testing and will require the occasional use of a respirator. (provided by the company); excellent computer skills; working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook programs; ability to learn PLC based controls.

 Preferred: Mechanical repair experience and mechanical aptitude highly recommended; licensing above State Level 1 operators preferred; HAZWOPPER certification; previous experience with Supervisor Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), RS Logix and Allen Bradley.
