Job Details | SATCOM- This equipment includes the AN/FRC-181(V2) Military Strategic and Tactical Relay (MILSTAR) ground terminal EHF band and the AN/GSC-52 Modernization of Enterprise Terminal (MET) X- and Ka-band. Satellite Technician operates, monitors, secures, and repairs fix Satellite Terminal Systems including connectivity to local and wide area networks, end-to-end telecommunications, circuit switching systems, and long-haul Communications/Transmission systems. Individual must be proficient with Operations and Maintenance of Ka, X and EHF band terminals, Modernization of Enterprise Terminals large, fixed antenna. Installing, configuring, and maintaining secure Defense Satellite Communications Systems equipment. Analyzes capabilities and performance, identifies problems, and takes corrective actions to ensure the most efficient operations of SATCOM equipment. Monitors status and performance of Transmission/Receive systems. Responds to circuit outages and coordinates with STRATCOM, distant end facilities and local Systems/Users when necessary, in order to restore communications services. Utilizes Trouble Ticket System for reporting and tracking of circuit outages and restoration. Experience in working with the DOD teleport system. Experience with operating UHF, EHF, and AEHF terminals Experience with system level and bench level electronics troubleshooting, experience with commercial satellite constellations and ground station equipment, experience with IP-based satellite communications networks. Performs other duties and assignments as required. RCS- This equipment includes Motorola APX 8000 series Land Mobile Radios and Base Stations, the Bogen Multi-VoIP PA System and the Base Wide Television System. Operate and perform scheduled and unscheduled electronic and mechanical repair, modification, alignment, servicing, and assessment on all assigned communications equipment in accordance with system technical orders, manuals, and directives. Interface with the Alaska Land Mobile Radio Program is required. LCC- Provides communications services, operates communications center equipment. Operates the Communications Processing System (CPS). Responsible for the delivery of both classified and unclassified messages for the site functional areas using SIPRnet and Space NeUMDT/AUTODIN systems. Requires ability to effectively use patch-and-test equipment; continuously monitors mission communications systems, responds immediately to malfunctions , and keeps the Maintenance Monitor Console Operator (MMCO) informed of real-time equipment status. Up-channels circuit outage issues dealing with FCO Alaska, DISA-CONUS, DISA-PAC, DISA-AK and SDIN. Works with commercial carriers during Authorized Service Interruptions (ASI) and resolves circuit outage problems. General Duties: Utilize a wide variety of test equipment in the performance of maintenance. Maintains records, logs, files, and prepares reports. Able to operate equipment such as light duty trucks and Genie Lifts. Familiar with and able to use Encryption Devices: KIV-5, KIV-7, KIV-19 and KG-175 family, various Modems & other interface equipment, VTC equipment, Desktop computer, Laptop computers Printer/Copier Fax machines, VolP/STE/DRSN Telephones Perform Integrated Maintenance Data System entries IAW applicable documents. Follow all communications, operational and physical security requirements for the generation, handling, marking, controlling, protecting, and disposition of classified material, including COMSEC. Complete paperwork for the control, requisition and turn-in of government assets. Responsible for loading/update of crypto keys, switching online equipment, patching circuits, and monitoring assigned systems. Responsible for system backups, maintaining area files, records, and directives in accordance with Air Force Instructions and local procedures. Assists Local Area Network (LAN) and Telephone Maintenance (TELCOM) shops on nights weekends and Holidays by taking trouble calls and providing general assistance to users. Provides Duty Manager solutions and forwards calls to appropriate managers outside of normal duty hours. Acts as the Base level Telephone Operator . Conducts inventories and controls COMSEC material used in the LCC. Assists in preparation and publishing of local procedures. Assists in the administration of the COMSEC program. Participates in the self-inspection program. Performs additional duties as assigned by the Foreman and Supervisor/Manager. Shift work is required in support of 24×7 operations at a remote location. Core Qualifications: Must possess and maintain an active final (appropriate level) security clearance and maintain enrollment in the USAF Cryptographic Access Program. Must demonstrate computer software proficiency adequate to operate computer-based systems/networking equipment and accomplish administrative duties. Must have strong basic electronics skills including ability to install and repair analog, digital and RF circuitry. Completion of a formal military or recognized civilian basic electronics course. Completion of civilian or military satellite communications maintenance technician course and one year’s experience in military or civilian satellite communications maintenance, or two years’ experience as a satellite communications maintenance technician, or two years’ experience as an electronics maintenance technician combined with successful completion of the Entry Level Training Plan. 75% of tasks on the ELTP must have been completed within 12 months of the date of job posting. Desired Qualifications: Strong basic electronics skills. Networking Experience. Experience as a satellite communications maintenance technician on MILSTAR/MET. Experience in maintenance of land mobile radios, TV distribution systems and public address systems. Experience in a DOD Communications Center .
