Job DetailsJob Summary: Tends one or more boilers to produce steam for use in an establishment, fires boiler, observes and interprets readings on gauges, meters, and charts which register various aspects of boiler operation, adjusts controls to insure safe and efficient boiler operation and to meet demands for steam or high-temperature water. This incumbent may also do one or more of the following: maintain a log in which various aspects of boiler operation are recorded; clean, oil, make minor repairs or assist in repair to boiler room equipment; and following prescribed methods, treat boiler water with chemicals and analyze boiler water for such things as acidity, causticity, and alkalinity.

Education, Experience, Skills: Current State of Alaska 2nd Class Power Boiler Operator License; high school education or G.E.D equivalent; must be able to communicate clearly (oral and written) in the English language with both; internal and external clients and co-workers; ability to maintain precise documentation organization of operations, daily tasks, work orders and work events; required to work overtime as needed; must be able to clearly communicate by radio; certified in Confined space (Entry, Attendant and Supervisor), complete Company provided training within 6 months of accepting the position; must be able to work shift work, rotating shift, and long hours as needed; must have excellent trouble-shooting and mechanical skills; must have excellent documentation and organizational skills; must be able to respond to calls for work outside of normal working hours; excellent Attendance Record; demonstrated mechanical abilities; operators at Boiler Plants are required to work with high energy Steam systems, and as such need to be constantly aware of plant conditions and situations that could cause harm to them or to the equipment; should have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook programs; should be ready to learn PLC based controls; good computer skills. 

Preferred: ICS 200; PLC Based controls experience; previous experience with Supervisor Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), RS Logix and Allen Bradley (move to preferred); able to maintain HAZWOPER certification IAW 29 CFR 1910.120, completed within thirty (30) days of accepting the position.
