The Alaska Teamster-Employer Service Training Trust (ATESTT) is currently seeking a Truck Driving Instructor in the Anchorage area. This is a full-time position with benefits.
Primary Purpose:
Train students in a variety of functions/topics including driving to ensure they possess the skills necessary to certify or test. Become a licensed commercial driver instructor and conduct road skills tests in compliance with State of Alaska DMV requirements.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain daily operations of Anchorage training center, equipment, facility, and all reporting.

- Communicate established course objectives and syllabi to the
- Develop classroom presentations, activities and assignments in keeping with course objectives.
- Perform cleaning of/or periodic inspection on trucks and equipment and make recommendations for service.
- Train student drivers on performing safety inspections relating to potential truck/trailer issues.
- Instruct functional
- Evaluate student drivers on a daily basis to determine their progress and relay to
- Ensure student drivers know how to perform well when driving on upgrades and downgrades including starting and
- Ensure student drivers possess a basic knowledge of various traffic situations (i.e. intersections, urban/rural sections, expressways, bridge underpasses, ).
- Effectively and efficiently resolve student issues.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner which facilitates the success of business

Required Experience:
- Minimum three years CDL A truck driving experience within the last seven
- Have held a Class A CDL for a minimum of three
- Have all endorsements on CDL or ability to obtain all
Required Qualifications:
- Must be able to qualify for hire by meeting State of Alaska – DMV requirements including but not limited to: possessing a current valid commercial driver license, having clean motor vehicle report, passing a thorough criminal background check, passing a proficiency road test, hold and maintain a DOT physical, and have recent verifiable driving
- Must have a HS diploma or
- Must pass pre-employment drug
- Must have no prior DOT regulated drug and alcohol testing
- Must be able to pass a background check. Have had no driver related convictions in the previous five years. Have had no history of felony convictions or any convictions involving fraudulent
Position Requirements:
Must be able to be on feet, on hard surface, for eighty percent or more of shift (i.e. standing and walking while instructing and observing students while on the Range); basic proficiency with Microsoft Office suite; advanced oral and written communication skills and possess strong interpersonal skills; demonstrate good judgment and discretion; self-motivated and flexible; strong problem solving skills; leadership & commitment to continuous improvement; stress tolerance and ability to handle changing priorities; must engage in ongoing education relating to teaching skills as part of faculty improvement to maintain post-secondary education requirements of State of Alaska.
