Job DetailsThe boiler operator is responsible for maintaining all aspects of the JBER Hospital central utility plant boilers & steam generating equipment. Responsibilities: Ensure optimal & continuous operation of mechanical systems by performing routine inspection, equipment logging & maintenance; maintain efficient burner combustion; maintain records of operation, fuel & water levels & completed maintenance, effectively analyze, identify repair & replace malfunctioning components; analyze operational data to determine adjustments or corrections necessary for proper boiler operations or changing load requirements; operate, adjust & maintain auxiliary control equipment such as pumps, forced & induced draft fans, air compressors, fuel transfer pumps, water softeners & water treatment systems; observe & note readings on gauges, meters, detectors, recorders, boiler water level indicators & computer generated & analog displays to detect anomalies in operations; test feed water, boiler water & condensate using standard chemical tests; determine the water treatment required to control chemical concentrations, remove impurities & entrapped gasses or stabilize fluctuating water conditions in the boiler(s). Johnson Controls Metasys experience is preferred. Maintain precise control over the quality or purity of plant steam produced;  check operations of safety equipment such as flame safeguard controls low water cutout, high pressure cutouts, limits & purge type combustion safeties. Education and/or Experience: Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education & experience. Certificates, Licenses & Registration: State of Alaska Boiler Operator 2nd Class certification. A complete job description is available in the Anchorage dispatch office.
