Job DetailsThis is for a casual position. Summary: The overall purpose and objective of this position is to maintain and repair mechanical problems that arise with company powered and non-powered equipment, and to perform those functions, as needed, in a safe, efficient and economical manner. Required to perform a full range of component overhaul and repair including inspecting, troubleshooting, welding, electrical component testing and or replacing and refrigeration diagnostic and repair as needed. Ability to work all shifts and any weekdays, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed; this position is a casual position, no guarantee of a 40-hour work week.

Job Duties: Perform maintenance on wheeled commercial trailer chassis, industrial equipment, automotive, engines, special purpose and material handling equipment; perform maintenance on light and medium duty equipment; troubleshoot defects and malfunctions and determine the type or extent of the repair; perform technical inspections of equipment and determine the scope of the repair; perform welder duties using electric and wire fed, acetylene, and/or inert gas-shielded welding processes; perform body and fender related repairs; modify, fabricate, and install equipment; meet and maintain vehicle brake inspector qualifications; meet and maintain commercial motor vehicle inspector qualifications; pass training for OSHA and company safety training including but not limited to: Lock-out/Tag-out (LOTO) and Hazardous Materials; operate all equipment, including diagnostic, to perform functions of the job; perform other mechanic duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Must have and maintain a valid Alaska driver’s license; must be able to obtain and maintain a TWIC card; computer skills required to the extent necessary to perform required job function; certified in refrigerant, welding, forklift and top pick within 90 days, as well as maintain those qualifications; ; Union members selected for an interview must bring a dispatch form from Union Local 959; Non-union candidates selected for interview must become a union member if hired; current driving history going back a minimum of 10 years; must be able to pass a background and Fit for Duty Test upon job offer. Refrigeration, welding, diesel, heavy equipment mechanic experience preferred.
