Job Details | SUMMARY: This is a local driving position. Drives tractor and trailer combination or straight truck to transport cargo freight. May pick-up, load, unload, and deliver cargo freight. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES: Drive vehicle to specified destination in accordance with company procedures; applies knowledge of commercial driving and skills in maneuvering vehicle at varying speeds and in difficult situations, such as heavy traffic, inclement weather or in tight loading/unloading dock areas; load and unload trailer, either individually or with assistance of dock workers, with or without mechanical freight-handling equipment; ensure that load is secure by using a variety of cargo straps, tarps, ropes, chains, lumber and other tools; hooks and unhooks trailers from tractor or from converter dollies; ensures that all shipping documents (manifest, bills of lading, delivery receipts, hazardous material placarding, etc.) required to move the shipment is available and complete. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must have a high school diploma or GED; must have current/valid class A CDL with hazardous materials endorsement and may be required to obtain a doubles endorsement; ability to read and interpret documents such as hazardous materials shipping regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, ability to write routine reports and correspondence, ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, customers and the general public; applicant must be at least 21 years of age with a good driving record; must be willing to work in the warehouse and yard with minimal driving time to start.
